

Janet E. Quade, age 87, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2025, in Seneca, South Carolina.
Janet was born on April 20, 1938, to Lawrence and Agnes (Manning) Quade and was raised on the family farm near Clare, Iowa. She attended St. Matthew’s Catholic School and developed a lifelong commitment to faith, learning, and service.
She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa, a Master of Arts degree from Saint Louis University, and later multiple advanced degrees including her doctorate from Northern Arizona University. Janet was formerly a member of the Sisters of the Presentation in Dubuque, Iowa, and taught at Wahlert High School and Garrigan High School before continuing her academic career at Northern Arizona University, where she also served as dean of a university extension campus near Phoenix, Arizona.
Janet married William Phillips on September 2, 1977 in Flagstaff, Arizona. They also lived for many years in Sun Lakes, Arizona, before retiring and later relocating to Clemson, South Carolina.
Among Janet's many talents, she was an avid golfer, savvy card player, lifelong learner, and a volunteer in her Sun Lakes community and church.
She is survived by her husband, William Phillips; her siblings Marcia Quade, James Quade, Sue Q. Kaye, Larry (Linda) Quade, Terry (Donna) Quade, Robert (Kathy) Quade, Judy Q. Anderson (Gene), Sister Pamela Quade, and Pamela Gehring; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Mary Ann Herbert; brothers-in-law Joe Herbert, Jerry Moore, Gene Kaye, Clarence Gehring; and sister-in-law Jane Quade.
A memorial service will be held on January 9, 2026, at 11:00 am at Dillard Memorial Funeral Home in Pickens, South Carolina. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities USA.
Rooted in faith throughout her life, Janet now rests in the peace of Christ.
