Born on October 31, 1947, in Pickens, SC, Jerry was the son of the late Floyd Garrett and Willie Mae Garrett. A 1965 graduate of Pickens High School, Jerry proudly served and retired from the Army National Guard as a Sergeant Major.
Jerry had a deep love for the outdoors, especially golf and fishing. He was devoted to his family and treasured his role as "Pops" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After retiring from Bell South, he continued working for 23 years at Lindsay Oil Company. He was a faithful member of Fellowship Community Church in Liberty, SC.
Jerry never met a stranger and had a gift for connecting with people. Wherever he went, whether around South Carolina or out of state, he often ran into someone he knew. And if he didn’t know them already, it didn’t take long before he did. He deeply cherished the lifelong friendships he formed, especially those with his military family, which remained an important part of his life.
Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Debra B. Garrett; his daughter, Melissa Smith (Ken); his granddaughters, Jaida Smith, Jennifer Rivera (Mike), and Lyndsey Abbott (Michael); as well as four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Ginger Lewis; niece, Tiffany Owens; and nephew, Zach Lewis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donnie Garrett.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Dillard Funerals and Cremation, 2402 Gentry Memorial Hwy, Pickens, SC. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 12:45 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Jerry's memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital:
