Joe Patton

November 30, 1933August 8, 2019

Joe William Patton, age 85, of Pickens, South Carolina, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 8, 2019, surrounded by his family.

Born in Pickens, SC he was the son of John Patton and Cornelia G. Patton and lived his entire life in Pickens before recently relocating near his son in Lexington, SC. He was a long-time member of Northside Baptist Church in Pickens and loved growing his garden, keeping an immaculate yard and working in his shop where he built many family furniture pieces over the years. After serving in the US Army and a stint in manufacturing, Joe spent many years with Duke Power and the school district of Pickens County. He was most happy when he acted on his passion and started a construction company with his brother-in-law, B.F. Gilstrap. Many beautiful homes and buildings dot the upstate as a result of their craftsmanship and quality construction.

Survivors include Sue Patton, his beloved wife of 63 years; a son, John Patton of Lexington, SC and his wife Sharon, whom Joe loved like a daughter, and a granddaughter, Brooke Patton of Greenville, SC, who is one of the greatest joys of Joe’s life.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Oakleaf Village Assisted Living and Tidewater Hospice of Lexington, SC for their loving care.

A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens, SC, with the Reverend H.C. Couch officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northside Baptist Church Missions Fund at 421 Sangamo Rd., Pickens, SC 29671.

John and Sharon, I am so saddened to read of Joe's passing. He and Sue were such kind, gracious people. I think of them every time I pass the house. He poured so much love and care into that home. It was always a showcase yard. I pray that God will comfort you in this deep loss, and bless you as you look after your mother. We know that we have the hope of seeing him again. I love you, and am praying for you.

Sorry to hear about Joe. I talked with him many times when he worked with the schools. A great person who will certainly be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
