Mrs. Crowther was born in Pickens County on May 24, 1920 to the late Ben T. and Mary G. Winchester. In her younger years, she worked for her father at Pickens Hardwood Flooring Company. She was a graduate of both Anderson College (now University) and Furman University, and retired from the Pickens County School District as a teacher. Mrs. Crowther was a faithful member of Pickens First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Crowther is survived by her four children: Billy Crowther (Laura) of Murrells Inlet, SC, Mary O'Dell (Glenn) of Jesup, GA, Ben Crowther (Lynne) of Pickens, and Michael Winchester (Cindy) of Resaca, GA; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her five sisters: Christine Kearney, Mary Hull, Ruth Hinkle (Doug), Janie Sorrells (Tommy), and Myrtie Cochran.
In addition to her loving parents, Mrs. Crowther was preceded in death by her step-mother: Bertie C. Winchester; five brothers: D.S. Winchester, David Winchester, Hubert Winchester, John V. Winchester, and Ben Winchester, Jr.; four sisters: Evelyn Breazeale, Elizabeth Howe, Esther Kelley, and Martha Reavis; and a grandson: Andy Young.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 AM on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Pickens First Baptist Church with visitation to follow the service in the Church Fellowship Hall. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, prior to the service, at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
