

Marilyn was born in Pickens, SC on February 19, 1930, to the late Florence Porter Evette and James Rufus Evette.
Marilyn will be remembered for snapping beans under the carport, canning vegetables from her garden, and singing old hymns. She enjoyed watching her grandkids when they were little, watching her "stories," collecting S + H Green Stamps, and getting her hair done. She especially loved her ice-cream sandwiches, Mary Kay lipstick, and a good box of chocolates.
Marilyn is survived by her children, Bill Simmons (Phyllis), of Seneca, Jimmy Simmons of Pickens, Susan Finley (Richard), and Jeff (Cyndi) Simmons of Pickens; she is also survived by her 7 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
In addition, Marilyn is survived by her sisters, Sue Wallis of Pickens, and Cordelia Godwin of Denver, CO.
Marilyn was preceded in passing by her husband of 54 years, William Roy Simmons; daughter, Tammy Kelley; granddaughter Brook Kelley; parents, James Rufus Evette and Florence Porter Evette; stepmother, Effie Anderson Evette; brother, Porter Lee Evette; and sisters Ruth Keasler, Yvonne O'Donald, and Evelyn Perry.
A committal service will be held at Griffin Baptist Church, 1629 Pumpkintown Hwy, Pickens, SC 29671, on January 12, 2026, from 2:00 PM
