Marshall is survived by four children: Alice Sines, Rosa Stangeman, Theressa Pelfrey and Ray Cobun and predeceased by a daughter Diane Freeman Sites and a son Marshall E Cobun III. He also leaves behind thirteen grandchildren, Angie Sines, Kenny Sines, Patty Sines, Eric Sines, Robbie Turner, Chris Turner, Tim Pelfrey, Katie Pelfrey, Davie Culpepper, Karen Dunbar, Cherie Toney, Stephen Cobun and Rayna Cobun along with forty-four great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Marshall was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam War, where he earned several medals, including the National Defense Service Medal w/ Bronze Star. He grew up on a rural farm in Morgantown, West Virginia the only son of the late Marshall Cobun Sr. and Lillie Bell Sanders Cobun Ice. As a child, he learned to work on cars and enjoyed fishing. He served twenty years with distinction in the Navy serving in Korea and Vietnam. His last duty station was on the USS Yorktown.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Sunrise Cemetery at 603 East Cedar Rock Street, Pickens, SC. The Reverend Robbie Eades will be officiating. A visitation will occur from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM, Wednesday, at Dillard Funeral Home Chapel 2402 Gentry Memorial Hwy, Pickens, SC.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Pickens County Literacy Association, 147 Pinehill Dr., Pickens, SC 29671; Phone 1-864-617-4237. Marshall was a strong advocate for reading.
