Born December 2, 1937, in Greenville, South Carolina, to Otis “Ott” and Pauline “Polly” Ballew Evans, Mitzie lived a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion to family and friends.
She is survived by her son, Rhett Kendrick (Kathy), and daughter, Wren Loesel (Chad); grandchildren, Kyla Reis (Casey), Camille Rumford (DJ), Julianne Forrester (Mike), and Hailee Zanatian (Arrin); and great-grandchildren, Emerson and Brantley Reis; Scarlett and Harlan Rumford; Braxton and Hunter Forrester; and Archer and Weslee Zanatian. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Malcolm Wilson—the love of her life—whom she met and married in Orlando, Florida, in 1967.
Mitzie graduated from Parker High School (Class of 1955) and later earned her bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Central Florida (Class of 1987). She dedicated her career to civil service, working for the Department of Defense, IRS, USPS, and ultimately retiring from the Centers for Disease Control as a Contract Analyst. Her work ethic and commitment were matched only by her zest for life.
After retirement, Mitzie and Mal embraced their shared passion for travel, exploring the country to visit loved ones and hunt for antique treasures. Mitzie also had an entrepreneurial spirit—she held a real estate license and owned a small business. She was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church and actively participated in numerous clubs and organizations, including The Red Hats Club and the U.S. Air Force Retirement Village, where she formed lifelong friendships and brought joy to those around her. Some of her fondest memories were made while hosting her annual “Christmas in October” celebration, which brought friends and family together for laughter and fellowship.
Mitzie will be remembered for her warmth, adventurous spirit, and unwavering love for family. She touched countless lives with her kindness and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens, South Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Mitzie’s memory by sharing a story, a smile, or a moment of kindness with someone in need—just as she always did. Your kindness will keep her spirit alive.
