First time I met Steve I installed tile in his cabin for him. I remember ever three minutes he would come and check on me. Every time after that he would always tell me how good of a job I did. In the 7 years I knew Steve I never heard him utter a negative word or say anything that wasn't positive. In my 32 years on earth he is the only person I can say that about. Steve loved my boys like his own grandkids and more importantly he loved life. He always wanted to talk fishing and hunting and always wanted to lend a hand. So when I shed tears for Steve it isn't because he is gone because I know he is in a better place. It's because I know there will never be another one like him. He was a breath of fresh air and I'm gonna miss him. Love you Steve fly high bud

Steve took me fishing many times up in Eastatoee. He told me to be careful not to slip in the mud near the water because it was cold and he laughed so much when I did it anyways. He let me carry my own fish back to truck on a stringer and him and Mema laughed and laughed because I had gotten them so dirty by dragging them behind me the whole way. I will miss him and always remember all the fun times and memories of holidays too.

You were very Much loved by my 1 year old. He was very shy and never let anyone hold him but every time he saw Steve he would let him hold him and he would just smile. Even at age 1 he could tell Steve was his Me ma's blessing.

My family was blessed with Steve about 7 years ago when my uncles Jarroll and Carroll Owen showed up with him at my mother's house on Mother's day to show off another one of their antique cars.  From that day on my mom and Steve became the best of friends.  He said she could make him laugh like no other. You could just tell how he thought the world of her. He was an answered prayer for us and my mom.  From that moment on he had a huge impact on our family and even the church family each time he was around. He never once said a harsh word about anyone and always carried a smile and was willing to help anyone with any job big or small. He was the most kind hearted man and my family will miss him so much!! He loved me, my kids and sisters like his own and he may not have many blood relatives around anymore but he was MY family and always will be!!! Love you Steve. Fly High. Rest in Peace. Thanks for all you did for me and my Mother and family. You will be missed always!

Steve was my brother-in-law but he was more of a friend. He had a big heart. So easy going. I will miss going down to visit him and sharing stories together. I love him like a brother. He will be so missed. My thoughts are with Vera and the family. God Bless!

So sorry to hear of Steve's passing, I know he will be greatly missed, didn't know him real well, but he was a great friend to Vera, and I know this is tough on her.  The family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

My Mom, Maybelle Batson thought Steve was already an angel.  She loved to cook for him and Don when they did chores for her.  I know she will be glad to see you in Heaven.
