Willie Mae Roper

Easley – Willie Mae Roper, age 92, born in Greenville County, South Carolina and daughter of the late John Seaborn Gilstrap and Vadie Simmons Gilstrap was called home on Friday, January 10, 2020.

She worked as a seamstress for a number of dedicated years with Swirl Industries. Ms. Roper had a soft spot for the Clemson Tigers and was frequently seen in Death Valley cheering to the tiger rag. Ms. Roper was a sixty-five year member plus of Elljean Baptist Church. She loved to crochet, sew, put puzzles together and was a long time member of the Pickens Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are daughter Kathy Powell (Larry) of Liberty, South Carolina and two sons James Roper Jr. and Jeffrey Roper both from Easley, South Carolina. Ms Roper is survived by one sister Frances Sentell of Pickens, South Carolina. She is also survived by six loving grandchildren and thirteen precious and adorable great grandchildren.

Ms. Roper is predeceased by sisters Ruth Taylor and Mildred Seen and brother Joe Gilstrap.

A graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park Sunday, January 12, 2020 at 10:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Gideons International Processing Center, POB 97251, Washington D.C. 20090-7251.

I was sorry to hear of Willie Mae passing. I didn't find out till Sunday after the funeral. We have fond memories of my dad (Garline) and Willie aggravating each other, also thought the world of James.

I am so sorry to hear about Willie Mae. I wish I had known of her death earlier. Always loved talking to her at the reunions about family and the Clemson Tigers. Willie Mae and James were always so good to my Dad.

Elljean Baptist Church and attending football games at Pickens. . Benny love to tease Willie Mae about something all the time.

So sorry for your loss. Was our neighbor for years. Seems like our little neighborhood is going home to be with the Lord. All the memories of my sister Renee, my brother Greg, the Ropers, the Thompson’s, the Keaslers and Steve Cole, Jimmy and Jeffrey all playing football or baseball in Mama and Daddy’s backyard!
