James Gilven Brooks

James ”Jamie” G. Brooks, 90, of Pineville passed away Monday, October 20, 2014 following a long illness. Born December 10, 1923 in Wyoming County, he was the son of the late Albany Carroll Brooks and Zeta Walker Brooks. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Burl Albert Brooks; brothers, Robert Hollis Brooks and Selmer Carrol Brooks and sisters, Oretha Sowards and Bertha Philyaw. Mr. Brooks was a member of the Cook Memorial Baptist Church. He served in the US Army during WWII and Korea. He was former Executive Vice President of Castle Rock Bank and First Community Bank. Mr. Brooks was a member of the Pineville Lions Club, a deacon and member of the choir at Cook Memorial Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, boating, camping, riding motorcycles, his church and being with his family. Survivors include his loving wife of over 67 years, Christine Curtis Brooks 3 sons, Gil Brooks and his wife, April of Titusville, FL Randy Brooks and his wife, Martha of Vienna, WV Kelly Brooks and his wife, Vivian of Pineville A sister, Tensie Tracy of Versailles, KY He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren A celebration of Jamie’s life will be conducted at 7:00 PM Wednesday evening at Cook Memorial Baptist Church in Pineville. The family will receive friends from 5-7PM Wednesday evening at the church Burial will follow at 11:00 AM Thursday at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley with full military graveside rites conducted by the Wyoming County Veteran’s Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jamie’s name to Cook Memorial Baptist Church PO Box 337 Pineville, WV 24874.
