

Born June 22, 1924, in Clay County, Alabama, he was the son of the late Bennett Rue and Corrine Hobbs Lackey, and his stepmother Mary C. Lackey.
J.C. was a veteran of World War II serving his country in the United States Navy. He was a retired coal miner with Island Creek and Consol coal companies. He also was a member of Rockcastle Baptist Church, and the Pineville Masonic Lodge #138. He enjoyed riding his Harley, and spending time with his friends and family.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife Freda Lackey, his son Mike Lackey, his brothers Leroy, Fred, Thomas, and James Lackey.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son David Lackey and his wife Louise of Pineville, his grandchildren Eva Crews and husband Don of Beckley, David “Joey” Lackey II of Pittsburgh, Pa., Michelle Lackey of Pineville, one great-grandchild Emily Crews of Beckley, his sisters Polly Phillips of Alexandria, AL, Mary Watts and husband Floyd of Munford, AL, Ann Stephens and husband John of Huntsville, AL, a sister-in-law Brenda and Roger Bowman of Glen Burnie, Md., a special and close friend June Goode, and a host of nieces, nephews and countless friends.
The family would like to thank the staff, nurses and doctors of the V.A. medical center for the wonderful care given to J.C.
Services honoring the life of J.C. Lackey will be held Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Calfee Funeral Service, with Rev. Silas Mullins and Rev. Donald “Doc” Adkins officiating. Following the service he will be laid to rest beside his wife in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny. Masonic rites of Burial will be conducted by the Members of Pineville Masonic Lodge #138, and military honors provided by the Wyoming County Veterans honor guard. Members of Pineville Lodge #138 will serve as his pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from noon until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior project, and Shriners Hospital for children, or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
