

Albert F. Kamper, 84, of Ross Township, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 30, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Al was born in Pittsburgh on February 23, 1942 to the late Carl W. and Alberta (Graczyk) Kamper. Al was married to Julie (Mangold), who preceded him in death on September 14, 1991.
Al was a graduate of North Catholic High School and Duquesne University, and received his Master of Library Science from the University of Pittsburgh. Al retired after 45 years of excellence from Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, as District Coordinator (District Services). Al was a well-loved public library building consultant and proudly served as a board member for Allegheny County Library Association (ACLA), Pennsylvania Library Association (PaLA), and Pennsylvania Citizens for Better Libraries (PCBL). Al was very involved in the Ross Area Soccer Association, which has grown to become the current North Hills Soccer Club.
Al was a proud father and grandfather, who enjoyed spending time with his family, especially birthdays and holidays, breakfast at diners, and playing board games at family dinners. Al also enjoyed talking with and going out with his friends and library folks.
Al is survived by his children Andrew, Douglas (Erin) Kamper, and Alexis (Stephen) Forest; grandson Adam Kamper Forest; sister-in-law Kathleen Kamper, niece and nephew Kirsten and Brendan Kamper, and great-niece Mariah. In addition to his wife and parents, Al is preceded in death by his older brother Karl Kamper.
Visitation for Al will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 from 4-8 PM at H.P. Brandt Funeral Home, 1032 Perry Highway, Pittsburgh, PA 15237. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in private.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests, per Al’s wishes, that memorial donations be made in Al's name to Holy Cross Academy (formerly Saint Sebastian Elementary School).
