Audrey S. Tenley

Audrey Schafer Tenley, formerly of McCandless Township, died peacefully on February 9, 2018 at The Oaks in Pleasant Gap, Pennsylvania surrounded by her family and her minister. Audrey was 83 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther Robert Schafer and Gertrude Kulp Schafer and her brother Luther R. (Bob) Schafer. She was born in Doylestown, Pennsylvania and went to nursing school at The Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing. She married and raised four daughters who she cherished - she is survived by Susan Gilbert (Peter) of Lamy, NM; Phyllis Trimble (Doug) of Allison Park, PA, Carolyn Andersen (Bob) of Boalsburg, PA and Barbara Samson (Scott) of Naperville, IL. She was also blessed and survived by six grandchildren who she adored: Megan Andersen, Ben Andersen, Luke Trimble, Matthew Trimble, Henry Samson and Tenley Samson. Audrey had many gifts and many talents. She was an exemplary nurse who worked both at Passavant Hospital and Allegheny Home Care. She loved nursing. Her patients and colleagues loved her as was evidenced by the many friendships she had and the many people for whom she continued to correspond with until her death. She loved living in the State College area after she retired at age 69. She was an avid Penn State fan who religiously watched the games each week and knew every player on the team. She was also an active member of her church - Pine Grove Presbyterian Church. Audrey was an excellent seamstress, knitter and cross-stitcher. For anyone who has seen her work you know that it is a work of art. Her daughters and grandchildren proudly display many of her works of art in their homes. She loved to read, go to the movies and watch the "Hallmark Channel" and "Fox News." She was up on current affairs and definitely had opinions on what was happening in the world. She was loved by many and lived a long and happy life. She will be missed but never forgotten. Visitation will be on Saturday, February 17th from 10 - 10:45 a.m. in the HP Brandt's Funeral Home, Inc., 1032 Perry Hwy., Ross Twp., (412-364-4444), with a memorial service following at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The burial will be private for the immediate family. There will be a “Celebration of Life" in honor of Audrey TO BE DETERMINED AT A LATER DATE.
