

Carole Grace Buswell, 91 years old, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2023 in Upper St Clair, PA. Carole was a long-time resident of the McGrann Hills subdivision of Peters Township. Carole graduated from Mt Lebanon High School in 1950, attended Allegheny College for two years before transferring to Carnegie Technical Institute, now Carnegie Mellon University, where she graduated with honors with a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics. Carole was the manager of the family-owned Open Pantry Food Mart on Rt 19 South. The Open Pantry was one of the earliest convenience stores and enjoyed a thriving business at a time when grocery stores by law were not open on Sundays. Carole loved to cook and was a fantastic baker. She was in her element hosting her twelve member Mt Lebanon United Methodist Church bridge club for luncheon and bridge where she baked homemade rolls and dessert and cooked and served lunch with her fine china, crystal and silver. Carole traveled extensively with her husband Stanley and/or friends. She visited Israel, Egypt, Japan, China, Brazil, Jamaica, and Europe including Switzerland, Italy, France, Ireland, Scotland and England. Family vacations often involved travel throughout the United States and included annual trips to New England. Carole was a member and volunteer at Christ United Methodist Church and member of The Woodland Hills Pool Club.
Carole is survived by her loyal husband of 70 years Stanley Franklin Buswell and by her four children: Rebecca (Jim) Young, Karyn (Bill) O’Brien, Steven (Tracy) Buswell, and John Buswell and his former wife Melinda Messina-Buswell; her 13 grandchildren: Daniel Buswell, Laressa Comfort, Michael O’Brien, Christopher Buswell, Peter O’Brien, Nathanael Buswell, Steven Buswell, Corey Buswell, Zachariah Buswell, Gabrielle Buswell, Aydin Buswell, Kathryn Buswell, Aybriana Buswell, and her nine great grandchildren. Carole was the only child of Herbert and Grace Hess who preceded her in death as did her son-in-law Jerry Livengood and granddaughter Alleen Buswell Hartlieb.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 8th, 1:00pm at Christ United Methodist Church, 44 Highland Road, Bethel Park, PA 15102.
