

On Sunday April 30, 2017, Charles W. Abernethy, age 97, passed peacefully to heaven, loving father to daughters; Lillian M. Abernethy, Adams Twp., Nellie A. Luther (Richard), Cranberry, and Linda M. DeFrank (Domenic), Richland Twp.; and grandsons, Brian P. Luther (Jody), Levittown, PA, and Stephen A. Luther (Jeana), Darragh, PA., and also survived by eleven great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Nellie Wheat Abernethy Fahrnesworth, and his wife Dorothy M. (Bechtel) Abernethy. Charles served in the US Navy during World War II on the USS Solace. He worked at National Lead Company for over 30 years, and after his retirement he worked at Bell Federal as a “jack of all trades.” Former member of Bellevue United Presbyterian Church, where he had served as an elder and a deacon, and current member of Hiland Presbyterian Church. Friends will be received Wednesday May 3, 2017 from 2-4 & 6-8pm at H.P. Brandt Funeral Home, 1032 Perry Highway, Ross Township (412-364-4444), where services will be held Thursday May 4, 2017 at 10am. Entombment to follow at Allegheny County Memorial Park.
