Darlene grew up in Pittsburgh, a city she dearly loved. She was a graduate of South Hills High School (Class of 1966) and went on to work in various jobs. She married Ronald Kranz and then embarked on her greatest role, raising her two children, Ken and Jennifer. With a goal of financially supporting her children's success, she later began a career as a prep cook, first for King’s Family Restaurants and then at Eat’n’Park. During her time as a prep cook, she not only honed her kitchen skills but formed many lasting friendships.
Darlene was known among her friends and family for being a helping hand. Whether that was pet sitting her beloved grand-pets, staying with her grandchildren, weeding everyone's yard, cleaning garages and gutters, or repairing anything that needed fixing, she was always, in her words, "Johnny on the spot." She was also like a keystone of her extended family, staying closely connected with her many relatives across Pittsburgh and beyond. One never knew when Darlene may stop by for a visit.
In the later years of her life, Darlene's love for animals and wildlife led her on an African safari fulfilling a lifelong dream. She was adventurous and loved to surprise her family in unique and thoughtful ways. Her legacy is one of selflessness, strength, and love for her friends and family.
Darlene is survived by her husband, Ronald Kranz; her children, Ken Kranz (Tosha Kranz) and Jennifer Piccola (Jason Piccola); her grandsons, Luke and Caleb Piccola; and her brother, Paul White.
