A steadfast man of determination. He was born on Mount Washington, Pennsylvania to his parents,
Frank Sr and Eleanor (Doerzbacher) Speicher. He attended South Hills High School where he was a member of the track team and was co-captain of the football team – priding himself of playing on the All-Star team with Johnny Unitas.
A devoted husband to two late wives. He married Audrey (Odd) Sarver in 1953 sharing forty-seven years of marriage, caring for her through multiple sclerosis. His was blessed with a second marriage to Trudy (Wahl - Maxwell) for nine years and cared for her through illness.
As a true Mecco Man, his tenure with the family business, M. E. Cunningham Company, started at a young age helping to rebuild the company after it burned to the ground in 1936. Together with his parents and siblings Frank Speicher Jr, Walt Speicher, and Viola Stewart they saw the company grow from rubber stamps to computerized marking machines. Over the years he designed marking machines for the steel industry and others, with him holding twenty-three patents. He traveled the world installing the systems. Once the company sold in 2002 he shared his stories in picture books.
He was also a lifetime member of the Ingomar Volunteer Fire Department where he served on countless emergencies and assisted the construction of the facilities, along with the maintenance of equipment.
He was also a life member of the Masonic Lodge North Hills #716 and assisted in relocating the organization from Commodore Perry building to the current Old Perry Highway facility.
“Chef Eddie” loved to cook and is famous for his pancakes. In retirement he enjoyed gardening and shared his flowers with many passers-by who enjoyed viewing the sights of his efforts.
Ed is survived by his children Warren ((late Nancy), Carolyn) Speicher, Lynne (Terry) Strasser, Laurie (Bob) Barcaskey, Lisa (Jack) O’Donnell; step-children Dan (Megan) Maxwell, Barb (Steve) Brosky; grandchildren, Beth, Cassie, Kayla, Travis, Rebecca, Jessica, Ashlee, Jacqueline, Shannon, Sean, Callen, Alec, and Tyler; and great-grandchildren Gianna, Ava, Kendall, AJ, Wyatt, Waylon, Finnegan and Liam.
Family and friends will be received at H. P. Brandt Funeral Home, 1032 Perry Highway, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, On Friday July 22nd from 2-4 and 6-8pm. A celebration of life will be on Saturday 23rd at 10:00 am at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Highland, 311 Cumberland Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15237.
In lieu of flowers the family encourages donations to St. John’s Lutheran Church of Highland.
Edwin will be laid to rest in Allegheny County Memorial Park, 1600 Duncan Ave., Allison Park, PA 15101.
