Age 65, of Avalon, PA and former longtime resident of Florida passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at the Pittsburgh Veterans Medical Center. Eric was born June 7, 1955 in Pittsburgh PA. He was preceded in death by his parents J. Donald and Patricia Owens his sister, Carol Miles and brother, Charles Owens.
After graduating from North Allegheny High School in 1973 he enlisted in the United States Army and served honorably. The United States Army was his greatest devotion. He served proudly in the 3rd United States Infantry Regiment which is called “The Old Guard” in Fort Myer Virginia next to Arlington Cemetery.
Eric retired from Nissan Motors and enjoyed his retirement with his girlfriend Joanne Oxner. He is survived by four sisters, Rebecca Russell (Frederick) of Santa Barbara, CA, Dawn Mann (the late Dennis) of Wexford PA, Andrea Morse (Tom) Bradford Woods, PA and Leigh Parker, of Ohio . Also survived by his nieces, Sara Easterday (Adam), Ali Herr and his nephew Tyler Morse as well as many additional family members and friends. Eric will also be missed by his former wife Ellyn Owens.
Per Eric’s wishes there will be no visitation. In the spring he will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors by his unit.
The family wanted to thank the VA Medical Center for the excellent care they provided to their brother and all veterans.
