David Zahren

July 14, 2020

Mr. Rose was our Means Avenue neighbor in Bellevue for all the years we Zahren kids were growing up. Always a quiet man and an insatiable reader - I’m sure the Bayne Library was hard pressed to keep up with him - Gerry also had a dry wit, telling stories that made his eyes sparkle and his small smile broaden.

But most of all , Gerry was a kind and generous friend. When our mother Ella developed dementia in her 80s, and neither my sister nor I were close enough to check on her on a regular basis, it was Gerry, his wife Louise, and son David who stepped up to help. They took mom shopping, brought her meals, kept Lory and me apprised of the situation, and even made mom laugh on occasion. No actual family member could have done more. Without the Roses, mom wouldn’t have been able to stay in her beloved home for as long as she did. I’ll be forever indebted to Gerry, along with Louise, and David. They are, all of them, special saints. My condolences to all members of Mr. Rose’s family. You have all lost a truly wonderful man.
