Dear Joel, Melanie and Mark,

Dad passed away on December 15th, and so now the Snelgroves, Barretts and Harveys are all reunited in heaven.  We are so lucky to have all those wonderful memories, not only of our parents, but of our parents' friends.  I think of Helen and Reg quite often, especially as I go back over Mum and Dad's life in Hudson and all the fun the six of them had.

Today is the day I discovered this news. Far too late. In Hudson Quebec we were  more than just neighbors. My Father and Reg were very close as well with golf the main topic many days. We were solid friends. I remember on a whim, driving from Fredericton NB to Pittsburgh just to see Helen.  I got lost and using  a very clumsy cell phone, Helen drive me through" the city. We took the tram ride up the hill, and had a wonderful diner. I drove her back to her place and then drove back to new Brunswick. We also shared the same Birthday of June 1. Helen was a  LADY in every sense of the word.  I am missing her so much right now. Joel and family: I trust you will get to  read this.

Wish I could give you a hug and tell you “We Love You!” ... just once more.  And, how much we miss you.

You were, and probably still are, such a wonderful role model for so many people.  Your positive attributes are many: Kind; Positive; Generous; Intelligent, Thoughtful, and always LOVING.  It is so obvious ... everyone respected and loved you as well.

Few people have overcome the obstacles and heartbreak that you did, and still thrived. You are an inspiration ... dealing with adversity;  optimism;  and professional accomplishments.  You were a stellar mother, a pillar of the community, and a revered member of our family who we all respected and adored.

You passed down many good lessons and attributes from Emma ... which we will always dearly remember.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

I grew up in Hudson and can hardly improve on what Susan Snelgrove has written. My Mother was the Margie Barrett she referred to and I spent some of those "overnights" with Helen. They and many other times with her will always be very special memories. Her cards and letters and our calls over the years were always a delight. When my sister Cathie and I called Helen to let her know that our mother and her friend Margie had died,we asked her if she would be our new mother. She readily agreed. We have now lost our second MUM!

Our thoughts and prayers are with her family. Helen was a very special lady who touched the lives of many. I will always remember the "hugs" I got when working with the Heinz Endowments.

Thank you dearest Helen for the beautiful treasure you were to all our family. God so richly blessed us through your sweet love, unending encouragement, quiet inspiration, enthusiastic spirit and always faithful prayers. With a truly grateful heart, Your cuz, Janet

"Mum H", Margie Barrett and my own Mum (Ada Snelgrove) were best friends living in Hudson. When I was around 10 years old, Reg was in the hospital for an extended time. I stayed at Helen's to keep her company....memories I will never forget. Helen treated me like a princess, making me fresh cinnamon rolls and grapefruit with a cherry each day before I headed off to school!  She held a bridal shower for me when I got married, and, like everything she did, it was elegant and lots of fun. My Mum and I kept in touch with Helen over the years through letters, cards and regular phonecalls.  In November when Mum died, Helen told me she was looking forward to the day when God would let her go to be with Reg and her friends.  After a long-fought and courageous battle with her health, she is finally at peace. Helen added so much to all of our lives simply by being her wonderful, loving and giving self. My sister Marcia is married to Lee, Aunt Helen's nephew.  I was very fortunate to meet Aunt Helen on several occasions in Pittsburgh and so enjoyed her delightful conversations on so many subjects and she was so gracious to make sure I felt right at home.  Her service to and caring about others was one of her most endearing qualities.

Aunt Helen was the most amazing woman.  She loved all of us unconditionally.  She never failed to ask about our lives in every conversation.  She had such vitality even until the very end of her life. My husband, Lee,(her nephew)  loved her so very much.  Their phone conversations over the last few months were a great solace to both of them.  She will be sorely missed by us.  We are very glad that she is not suffering.  Many reminders of her are a part of our daily lives.  We love you, Aunt Helen.

Aunt Helen was one of the kindest, most loving people I have ever known--a wonderful example of a life well lived. I will always remember our trips to Pittsburgh as such a special part of my childhood.

Helen was my mom in a real sense from early teens on. She brought a whole new sense of style and caring (and great cooking!) to our (myself- Joel ,brother Mark,sister Melanie)  stays with Dad & Helen- our other life in Hudson Heights(Quebec).

She was committed to being our mother in whatever way life allowed. I remember my Dad once saying, of his new life with Helen, that he was the happiest he'd ever been.

One of her gifts to me is her brilliant cheer and strong courage from a great depth - real blessings in my early life, that still touch and awe me.

It has been too long since I have been able to visit with Helen, but with letters and phone calls we kept in touch. In the last month we reminised on some of those early times. As she recalled - "we were a good family". My cards and notes to her always began "Dear Helen". And so she still is to me, always. Love, Joel.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs.Harvey. She was a client of mine at a Pittsburgh bank. Although we never met in person, she would always call me and we would discuss matters. We also shared a birthday. June 1st. She called me her gemini friend.
She will be missed.

Helen welcomed us to her and Reg's home in Pittsburgh when we visited them over the years, first with our son Jason and later with Jason and Lace.  She always made sure our children had an exciting time, with visits to the museum and other points of interest.  She and Reg remembered them on their birthdays and at Christmas, and Helen came to Victoria to visit us after Reg had passed away.  Lace and her husband Param visited Helen when Lace was a student in Erie and was given a warm welcome by her.  We're glad she was part of our lives.

On this day, I believe God wants us to know...that the world is so much brighter, so much better, because you were in it.  If only you knew all the gifts that you brought to others.  Now that you are there, you can rejoice in the gift that you were!

Aunt Helen was so very special to both Karen and me.  I will always treasure our visits to Pittsburgh and time spent with her.  How comforting to know Aunt Helen was greeted with love by family who preceded her, and with the Lord's own: Well done good and faithful servant.
