Helen R. Horan
July 16, 1932 – January 22, 2019
Helen R. Horan, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, January 22, 2019. Helen was born on July 16, 1932 in W. Roxbury, Massachusetts to her parents Joseph and Helen McCarty Cook. Helen attended Notre Dame Academy in Tyngsboro, Massachusetts. Helen is preceded in death by her dearly loved husband of fifty-six years, Justin T. Horan. Helen is survived by their eight children – Cathy (Paul) Southworth, Carol (Charlie) Nardello, Tom (Sandy) Horan, Steve (Nancy) Horan, Dan (Lisa) Horan, Mark Horan, Ginny (Larry) Lewis and Paul (Lori) Horan. Helen and Justin were blessed with eighteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Helen dedicated her life to their family.
Each day of Helen’s life was a demonstration of devotion. She passed along her love of gardening, cooking and nature to her children and grandchildren. Helen was an avid reader and remarkable homemaker undertaking the task of making clothing for her eight children. Many days were spent surrounded by her grandchildren sharing a story, a picture in a magazine, or recipe. Helen loved knitting and the family received many gifts of her amazing talents.
Mum and Dad enjoyed many years of travel especially to their beloved beach house in Rye, New Hampshire and winters in Luquillo, Puerto Rico. She shared her passions, guidance, and strong Faith with her children. She was the very heart of our family.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers Joseph and Robert Cook. Helen is survived by her sister, Margaret (Jim) Winn and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Sunday, January 27, 2019 from 2 – 5 p.m. at the H.P. Brandt Funeral Home, Inc., 1032 Perry Hwy, Ross Twp., (412-364-4444) Mass of Christian Burial at St. Teresa of Avila Roman Catholic Church on Monday, January 28, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Private interment to follow at the Christ Our Redeemer Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum.
