Howard is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Barbara (Lefler), children Ron Rathmann of St. Joseph, MO, Rari Thomas (Patrick) of White City, KS, Jennifer Lefler Rathmann of Pittsburgh, and Michael Glazer of Normal, IL. Also grandchildren Tyler Tracy (Miranda) of New Hampton, MO, Cheyenne Worrell (Lloyd) of White City, KS and Yoninah Todd of Pittsburgh and great-grandchildren Braxton and Raylynn of New Hampton, MO and Ryker, Willow, Blakely and Kya of White City, KS.
Howard was born in Battle Creek MI. Preceding him in death were his parents Harold and Ruth (Enos) Rathmann, brother Harold Rathmann Jr, and sister Marilyn Gable all of Battle Creek, MI.
Howard was drafted into the United States Army in 1969 and served for 32+ years (retired 2000) and upon retirement worked for Sears Headquarters in Chicago for 11 years. His successful Army career took him to many overseas locations including Vietnam, Germany, and Saudi Arabia as well as many stateside assignments. He was awarded many notable honors including induction into the United States Army Transportation Corps Hall of Fame. He was also a candidate considered for Sergeant Major of the Army. While in Vietnam, he was a member of D company, 2nd of the 501st Infantry 101st Airborne (Delta Raiders).
Howard was a vibrant spirit with boundless energy, an avid everyday golfer, a huge Chicago Cubs fan, and a favorite of the Miller Brewing Company.
Friends will be received on Wednesday September 23rd from 2-4 and 6-8 with a Memorial Service starting at 7 at H.P. Brandt Funeral Home 1032 Perry Highway Pittsburgh PA 15237.
