James Albert Peros

James Albert Peros Jr., 81, passed away at his home in Pittsburgh, PA of natural causes on June 13, 2026. A man of sheer will, he landed in Pennsylvania after surviving a catastrophic hurricane in 2022, and despite numerous health challenges had completed a solo road trip across several states in the past weeks.

Jim was born in Waterloo, Iowa on October 5, 1944 to James Albert Peros Sr. and Mary Katherine Peros and raised in Lawrence, MA. Jim was the eldest of four children: Shane, Kathleen and his twin brother, Gene. A true Massachusetts man with the driving and accent to match, Jim worked in his family's restaurants in Lawrence and on Cape Cod from an early age. Jim later worked on the railroad until his retirement in 2009—first with Amtrak and then for the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority’s commuter rail—where he liked to remind people, "people wait for trains. Trains don't wait for people."

Jim met the love of his life, Peggy Jean (Rotta) while they were both working at his family's restaurant in Yarmouth Port, MA. They were married September 6, 1975. She was a pillar of goodness in his life; the two were married for over 46 years until Peggy's death in 2022. Jim and Peg loved being close to the ocean, and raised children in Falmouth, MA before retiring to Fort Myers, FL. They always enjoyed taking visitors to their favorite beaches and relished frequent video calls with their children and grandchildren. A golfer for most of his life, Jim enjoyed finding a twilight deal and for many years in retirement, drove the ball collector cart at his local club.

Jim was “Grampy” to twelve grandchildren and reveled in their interests and achievements. He was a proud father to his children, Lisa, Jimmy, Kristina, and Jonathon.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife Peggy, parents, brother Gene Peros, sister Kathleen Lacasse, and nephew Damian Peros. He is survived by his children, his son-in-law Nathan Miller and daughter in-law Rebecca Mackenzie, his brother Shane Peros and sister-in-law Barbara Peros of Yarmouthport, MA, sister-in-law Patty Lynn Cunningham and her husband Thomas Cunningham of Fort Myers, FL, and his nieces and nephews, Christy and Craig Cunningham, Shane Peros, and his grandchildren Noah, Emma, Ella, Ava, Cora, Mira, Leah, Micah, Jonah, and Raya Miller, and George and Theodore Peros.

A private burial will be held at a later date.
