Jean C. Arndt of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away on March 14, 2024, at the age of 91. She was the daughter of the late Irene E. Colvin and Merle M. Colvin. sister of Robert B. Colvin; mother of David C. Arndt and Allyn E. Mathews; mother-in-law of Earl Mathews; grandmother of Maryn E. Mathews and Jnana Sagara Breck-Arndt. Jean was born in Pittsburgh, PA to loving parents.
She graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in 1950. She attended Indiana University of Bloomington, where her father was a graduate, returning home due to illness after her sophomore year. She attended business school and graduated with honors. Jean was hired at the Pittsburgh office of Batten Barton Dustine & Osborn (BBD&O) where she acquired a passion for advertising. Jean married and adopted her two children, rearing them in Bradford Woods, PA.
As a long time active Christian, she was a faithful member of the Bradford Woods Community Church and served as the church secretary for many years. At Ingomar Methodist Church, she was a long time member and worked part-time in the office. She worked as an office supervisor at Family Resources where she prided herself on serving the non-profit organization in the interest of child abuse intervention. She was a long-time member of the Bradford Woods Women’s Club.
She took pride in making family meals from scratch and taking cooking lessons to learn the latest gourmet trends. She was well versed in etiquette and the importance of appreciating others. She kept her home immaculate and had a place for everything. A well-organized kitchen may not exist.
Jean was a lifelong learner. She achieved her first associate degree in 1992 at the CCAC North Campus while working full-time. She achieved her second associate degree in 2021 at the age of 88. She was proudly on the Dean’s List multiple semesters while working full time. She was generous with her time. She volunteered at HEARTH and served Thanksgiving Meals on Wheels with her granddaughter, Maryn, for several years. Jean enjoyed an active lifestyle and social calendar.
She prioritized health and wellness, trying new recipes including whole foods and attending her fitness centers including Club Julian, Silver Sneakers, and chair exercise classes at Cumberland Woods Village. She served on the Welcoming Committee at Cumberland Woods Village and made a point to reach out to new residents. She was kind and generous to everyone and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held to honor Jean’s life on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 11:00 am at Ingomar Methodist Church in Ingomar. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects following the service at a reception at 12:00 pm in the fellowship hall on the lower level of the church.
