Joyce Burkinshaw

August 4, 1953June 5, 2019

Joyce Cummings Burkinshaw, born August 4, 1953 in Crown Point, Indiana to John Paul Cummings and Elizabeth Ann Bittner, suddenly passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2019.

Joyce was known for her kindness, her compassion, her candidness, and her strength. She was a friend and a confidant to many, but she was also a mother. She took on the role in her early years while helping to raise a family with 12 children, but that role never left her. She went out of her way to ensure that others were taken care of and she got joy out of seeing them happy. Joyce left a meaningful influence on so many lives, it gives comfort to know that her spirit will live on in those who knew her.

Joyce is survived by two children, her daughter Kimberly (William) Tarbell and her son Christopher Burkinshaw. She is also survived by her sisters and brothers, Susan, Kathy, Jane, William, Colleen, Ellen, Lisa, and David.

Family members would like to invite friends and loved ones to a memorial ceremony to celebrate her life and impact on the community. It will be held on Thursday, June 13th at The Mayernick Center at Avonworth Community Park from 1:00-8:00.

Joyce was an adorable, kind hearted individual. We had so many good times together. She always talked about her love for Kim and Chris. My prayers are with Kim and Chris and the family! I will always cherish the good times that we had. Rest in Peace Joyce!

I had the honor to work with Joyce in the Reporting field at Accenture from a long distance via Skype voice calls and messaging and I'm moved by the fact that I had the opportunity and pleasure to work with Joyce. I would like to extend my condolences to Joyce's family and friends and I pray for comfort.

Our family was so very honored and deeply fortunate to have received so much of the love Joyce shared with us and our friends. We so enjoyed our her visits to Florida and our time spent with her when we visited Pennsylvania. She was my much loved older sister; she knew and loved me my whole life and I will miss her terribly.

Joyce was a person who always wanted me to text her. I am the sister who doesn't text. So, it was difficult to talk with her. But, I was very lucky to talk with her for about 1 1/2 hours Mother's Day weekend! We laughed a lot and little did I know that was the last time I would ever talk with her! When I heard she was sick I flew right out from Minnesota. I was so honored to spend Joyce's final days with her children, Kim and Chris. Joyce is looking down on her children with real pride. I love you Joyce and will keep your memory in my heart forever. Until we meet again.......

You assume the good people in your life will be there forever. It's only after they're gone you realize you still needed more time with them. Joyce you'll always be in my heart. And will always be the mother I never had.
