Lois was born on March 15, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY to Gerald and Prudentia (Matthews) Moran, one of two children. After graduating Sewanhaka High School in New Hyde Park, she worked for the phone company. At the age of 20, she married Richard (Dick) O’Mara on September 23, 1951, with 10 days of planning since he was being deployed. Lois traveled by ship to join him in Germany where their first son was born. Upon return to the U.S., they lived in many places across New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, growing their family along the way. Lois often spoke of how much she enjoyed living in different places and making friends everywhere she went. In 1970, the family moved to Westtown, NY where they lived for 23 years. It was during this time that Lois took up golf. She became quite an avid golfer at the Port Jervis Country Club where she enjoyed many rounds of golf with Dick and her friends on the Ladies League. Lois also spent many weekends over three decades traveling with her husband to serve as an AKC Obedience Steward while he judged. She maintained a lifelong love of dogs, of which she owned many over the years. When Dick retired, they moved to Homosassa, FL where she spent the next 23 years. She continued golfing, with Dick and her new friends on the Ladies League, at Seven Rivers Golf and Country Club in Crystal River. Lois also joined several card groups and was active at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. A few years after Dick died, she moved to Redstone Highlands in Greensburg, PA to be near her son, Brian, and daughter-in-law Jane, who lovingly cared for her for over 7 years. Although she could no longer golf, Lois spent most every day playing cards and games in the Activity Center with friends. She was quite social and very content, often expressing her gratitude for the good life she had.
Lois was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Richard C. O’Mara, Sr., sister Geraldine Voss, son Timothy O’Mara, and grandson Patrick O’Mara.
Survivors include her children: son Brian and his wife Jane, son Richard and his wife Heather, daughter Kathleen and her husband Paul, and daughter-in-law Gen and her husband John; her grandchildren Katie, Jimmy, Colin, Johanna, Colman, Bridget and Claire; and her great-grandchildren Hudson, Emily and Brady.
Lois was a devoted wife, and nurturing mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her family has fond memories of her excellent cooking, and will always remember her sweet smile and beautiful blue eyes. She will truly be missed.
