It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Marcia Hoovler Hannan of Wexford, on January 15, 2025. She passed at home surrounded by her loving family. Marcia was born on December 16, 1948, in Franklin, PA to Robert and June Titus Hoovler. Marcia will be deeply missed by her husband Bill, her daughters Grace Hannan and partner Zachary Stein of New York City, Julia Hannan and partner Paul Luc of Pittsburgh and granddaughters Liana and Stevie Luc, siblings and spouses; R. Park (Judy) Hoovler of Falls Church, VA, Rita (Mark) Hale, of Franklin, PA, Earl (JoAnn) Hoovler of Leesburg, VA, and Keith (Kathy) Hoovler of Landing, NJ. and numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind countless friends and neighbors all of whom will miss her immensely.
As the 2nd of 5 siblings, Marcia grew up in Franklin and graduated from Franklin High School in 1966. She attended Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA where she graduated in 1970 with a B.A. in history and education. She earned a master’s degree in education at the University of Pittsburgh in 1975. Marcia always considered her Sigma Kappa sorority as the highlight of her college career where she formed countless life-long friendships with her beloved sorority sisters. She always called these sisters her “Finders Keepers”, as she considered herself so very lucky to find such good friends whom she would keep for life. Marcia indeed kept close her dear friends all her life enjoying annual trips, frequent get togethers, and her annual “Merry Merry Marcia” party.
After graduation, Marcia began what became a 35-year dedicated career to public education in the Pittsburgh Public Schools; first in the Sunnyside Elementary School as a social studies and remedial math teacher, and later for 24 years as a teacher in the PPS Humanities Gifted program. It was in this role she was most proud as she was able to impact the continuing development of so many young minds. Throughout her life, Marcia loved creating and tending to her home with all things celestial and extensive gardens where she had an amazing focus on every single detail. She also had a lifelong love for her City of Pittsburgh and her beloved Steelers! Marcia always enjoyed her time at their condo in Naples, FL, where she could sit with her toes in the warm sand and appreciate beautiful sunsets with her family.
