Richard (Rick) A. Swartz of Butler, PA began his days in Uniontown, PA surrounded by generations of family. There was always a flurry of activity around his grandfather’s auto repair shop where he would visit and make secret Mountain Dew runs for him. Those days and exposure to cars would stick with him throughout his life. As a kid he would build model cars and aspired to grow up designing the real thing.
His Dad’s job with the phone company kept him on the move, taking them to the South Hills of Pittsburgh, Warren, PA and eventually Shaler where he graduated in 1969. He himself would become a Cable Splicing Technician with the phone company for 32 years.
His future wife, Mary stepped in for a double date one fateful night, following a cancellation. That blind date began a relationship that eventually led to 52 years of marriage. They would settle down in Indiana Township where they started a family, having two sons, Brian and David.
Once he retired, they moved to Butler in a rare upsizing to allow for family to visit and to store the family's classic cars. He always loved going to car shows and cruises, including being a part of car clubs and events.
Rick, like his father before him, was a real "Mr. Fix-It.” He was all about doing things right and had an eye for detail. Those traits he generously passed along to his two sons. He was dedicated to his family, friends and neighbors, always offering a helping hand.
He will truly be missed as the patriarch of the family, a loving husband to Mary, father to Brian (Amy) & David (Jennifer) and grandfather to his four grandchildren Erik, Noelle, Holly and Nicholas.
