Age 86, died March 31, 2024, surrounded by family, after a long and valiant battle with cancer. Bob was born in Latrobe, PA, to Michael A. and Ruth (Burton) Shust. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judith A. (Stalker) Shust, and his sons Brad (Beth) and Steven (Susanna) Shust. Proud grandfather of Josie, Abby, Frankie, Flora and Alphonso.
Bob was a graduate of Washington and Jefferson College with a B.A. in English, and University of Pittsburgh Law School with a L.L.B. (later converted to a J.D.) in 1962. After law school, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Army. He served from 1963-’65, mostly in the Army JAG, and was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant.
He was a partner at the law firm Tener, VanKirk, Wolf and Moore, where he spent 41 years dedicated to his clients, providing estate planning, wills and trusts, and decedents’ estates and trust administration.
He was active at his beloved alma mater, W&J, and served on the Development Council, Alumni Executive Committee (President), General Alumni Association (President, 1977), and the Board of Trustees (1984-1996, 1997-present: Chair 2004-2007, Emeritus from 2009).
He was also very active in the community, and served as a Trustee of the W.I. Patterson Charitable Fund (1968-2005), on the Board of Trustees at Suburban General Hospital (Vice Chair), as President of Shannopin Country Club (1979-1981), on the Board of Mt. Troy Bank (15 years), and on various committees for Ingomar United Methodist Church.
Bob loved to golf, travel, and spend time with family. He enjoyed fishing trips to Canada, wintering in Sarasota with Judy, and visiting Ocean Grove, NJ, with family.
Bob will be remembered as an ethical attorney devoted to serving his clients, and a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, beloved by all who knew him.
A celebration of Bob's life will take place at the H.P. Brandt Funeral Home 1032 Perry Hwy Pittsburgh PA 15237 on Wednesday April 10, 2024, from 4pm to 7pm. A second celebration of life followed by a service will take place at the Masonic Village Assembly room at the Clubhouse 1000 Masonic Drive Sewickley Pa 15143 on April 11, 2024, at 11AM.
