Ruby (Spain) Hurley was born on July 3, 1924 in Russells Point, Ohio. She passed away at the age of 93 on August 25th, 2017, due to natural causes. She was the youngest of 4 children (Ethel, Ruth, and Bud), who all preceded her in death. She was married to Daniel Rex Hurley from 1946 until his death on November 9, 1994.
They are survived by two children and two grandchildren. Son Daniel Lee Hurley, 60, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and daughter Joni Kay Hurley, 63, of Clemson, South Carolina. Her two grandchildren are Brendan Daniel Hurley, 27, currently earning a Master’s in Urban Planning at The University of California in Berkeley and Morgan Danielle Hurley, 18, who is beginning her studies at Slippery Rock College in Pennsylvania this semester.
Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Rex Hurley formed two manufacturing companies in the 1980’s making typewriter ribbons, Hurley Ribbon Company and Cartridge Ribbon Company. They worked tirelessly to make these businesses a success before the inevitable change in technology. These companies were sold and the Hurleys retired. Mrs. Hurley thrived operating Hurley Ribbon Company and truly enjoyed all the employees who were like her extended family.
Ruby Hurley will be best remembered for her always pleasant demeanor and her love of animals, especially birds, and her favorite white chipmunk, Snowball. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite organization that supports animal rescue and welfare, such as Animal Friends of Pittsburgh.
