Rupert “Bud” Bradley Mackenzie, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, at the age of 86, surrounded by his loving wife of 60 years, Rebecca Davis Mackenzie, and their children, Jennifer (Scott) Hunt and Brad (Corie) Mackenzie.
Born on August 12, 1939, Bud lived a full life marked by curiosity, hard work, and a sharp sense of humor. After graduating high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force in 1959 and later served in the Reserves until 1965. His specialized computer training during that time led to a long and successful career as an Information Technology Project Manager, where he led teams managing critical business applications.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Bud enjoyed softball, basketball, bowling, and running—participating in the Pittsburgh Great Race several times. His greatest passion, however, was harness racing. He owned trotters and pacers that competed around the country and served eight years on the Board of Directors of The Meadows Standardbred Owners Association, where he advocated for the racing community.
Bud will be remembered for his devotion to family, his competitive spirit, and his love of animals—especially his German Shepherds. He was a proud grandfather to Lauren Hunt, Max Mackenzie, and Penelope Mackenzie, and will be deeply missed by his sisters, Marjorie (Ron) King and Joanne Weber. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother William Mackenzie, and sister Norma Kelley.
The family will receive friends at Brandt Funeral Home, 1032 Perry Highway Pittsburgh, PA 15237, Thursday, November 6th from 6:00pm — 8:00 pm and Friday, November 7th from 10:00am -11:30am with a memorial service to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bud’s memory to the Standardbred Retirement Foundation at www.adoptahorse.org or 42 Arneytown-Hornerstown Road, Cream Ridge, NJ 08514.
