Arnold Paul Van Winden, peacefully returned to the Lord's care at the age of 87, in the early morning hours of Wednesday, November 28th, in Placerville, California, surrounded by his loving family.
Arnold was born March 1, 1931, in Whitehouse Station, New Jersey. He attended Saint Elizabeth's High School in Oakland, California. As a young adult, he worked summers with his father in the Alaskan gold fields. Later he married and joined the US Navy serving on the USS Jenkins. After leaving the US Navy, Arnold worked in the bay area before relocating his family to Lafayette, California. While working in the wood shutter business, he opened Arco Wood Products in Suisun City, California. After working for over 20 years, he semi-retired but continued to use his master craftsmanship abilities to create fine furniture. When he was not working, he enjoyed sailing off the coast of California. After living for over 40 years in Lafayette, he retired to Diamond Springs, California. He continued to keep himself busy with home improvement projects, travel, friends, and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Sophie Van Winden, and his two sisters, Helen and Corey.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marlene Van Winden; their five children, Loretta, David, John, Allen and Arnold; & three grandchildren, Jacob, Britany, & Troy.
Services are scheduled for Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at Saint Patrick Catholic Church, 3109 Sacramento Street, Placerville, California, 95667. A Rosary will begin at 10:30 am followed by Funeral Mass at 11:00 am.
