with esophageal cancer. He was born in Sacramento, California on March 12, 1969.
Surrounded by loved ones, he passed away at UC Davis Medical Center in
Sacramento, California and was just 56 years old.
Ben was raised in Placerville, California and the oldest of three brothers, Eric, James
and Steven Fisher. Their parents James (Jim) and Gail Fisher (deceased January 26,
2024) wanted them to have space where they could enjoy being outdoors. Growing up,
they shared countless adventures. Ben was active in Boy Scouts and achieved Eagle
Scout status. He loved to fish and hunt with his dad and brothers, his Uncle Rob and
cousin Kevin Fisher, and his Uncle Mark Thoresen. Ben specialized in catching large
brown trout.
He graduated from Ponderosa High School in Shingle Springs, California. Ben proudly
enlisted in the U.S Marine Corps and served at Twentynine Palms Training Center in
California after boot camp. In addition, he spent a year in Okinawa. His grandfather, M.
E. Womack, coincidentally, was stationed at the same base at the end of World War II.
Ben was a union journeyman sheet metal worker. He was happiest outdoors and spent
many summers working at the Ice House Reservoir youth camp as a fishing guide. His
Aunt Diane once told him he could be the best Park Ranger ever. He loved to ride his
motorcycle in the mountain and forest areas, sunshine, rain or snow. He had his
favorite places to visit. One of those his brother Jim shared was hiking to Pyramid Peak
to watch the fireworks from South Lake Tahoe on the 4th of July. Ben hiked there 14
times.
In 2005, Ben married Rebecca Lee Crosby, however, their relationship dissolved over
time. Significant events from their marriage, were the birth of their two wonderful
children, Bo and Ruby. Ben was so proud of them and treasured every minute of their
time spent together, especially the time he and Bo spent hiking, camping and fishing in
the mountains.
Ben was a patriot and loved his country. He would go out of his way to help others. He
loved his family and his many friends. Forever in our hearts, Ben will be greatly missed
and never forgotten.
