Carlan was born at the Placerville Sanitorium and passed away at his ranch with his loved ones by his side and under Hospice Care. He was born to Carlos Meyer and Oprhie Tirapelle. Later Oprhie married Edward Tirapelle, who helped raise Carlan and gave him five siblings: Mary Anne Hobe, Leon Tirapelle, Stephen Tirapelle, Thomas Tirapelle and Melissa Frenn.
Carlan attended a one room school house in Diamond Springs, graduated from El Dorado High School active in baseball, basketball, track and in FFA. He played in the Sierra Foothill Loggers Semi-Pro Baseball as an In-Fielder position. Carlan continued his education at Cal Poly in Pomona and then finished his degrees a Sac State in Economics and Agriculture. He worked at Stangland and West running heavy equipment and retired from El Dorado County 38 years later as a supervising Appraiser.
He met Susan Frizzell and married in 1963, raising three children. Carlan coached Babe Ruth Baseball, Little League Baseball, and a Leader in 4-H for many years. He was President and an active member of the El Dorado Livestock Committee, Board Member of Placerville Fruit Growers, Farm Trails, Board Member of Farm Bureau, Grange, Volunteer Fireman, Resource Conservation District Board Member, El Dorado Union High School Alumni Association, Friends of the El Dorado County Fair, Fireman 5 Plus 4 and Knights of Columbus. He was deeply devoted to his family, friends and community.
Carlan was known as Papa, not only to his family but to friends of his grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom he left deep footprints in each of their lives. Carlan is survived by his wife Susan, children: Monica (Scott) Huston, Veronica (Jim) Morgan and son Michael (Lori) Meyer. 10 grandchildren: Briana (Casey) Elderd, Bryson and Brent Huston, Tyson (Shantelle) Morgan and Taylor Morgan and Trevor (Ashley) Morgan, Carl (Brittney) Meyer and Clayton, Casondra and Hunter Meyer. 10 great grandchildren and one more in April.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 3, 2022. Rosary at 10:30am and Mass at 11:00am with reception following at Saint Patrick’s Church in Placerville.
