Caroll was born and raised in California, and lived in a variety of cities around the San Francisco Bay Area throughout his life. He graduated from San Leandro High School and attended several colleges, earning degrees from Los Angeles City College, California State University, Hayward (now CSU East Bay), Eastman School of Music (Rochester University, New York), and Santa Clara University.
Caroll often spoke of his multiple and varied “lives,” as he had several careers through which he touched the lives of many people. In his own words, “Who am I? Who was I? 1st Life: musician. 2nd Life: college teacher – music. 3rd Life: psychotherapist – licensed as MFT. 4th Life: back to music…” The Back to Music stage of life is the one many will remember most, as Caroll performed 5-6 times per month in the Placerville area, adding richness and joy to all who heard him. His life-long passion for music began at a young age and took him all over the United States, playing and touring with numerous bands and shows. He was still arranging and performing into his 92nd year!
In addition to his music, Caroll was an enthusiastic and avid learner, devoted to seeking answers and realizing new questions. Caroll’s inquiries and interests included gourmet cooking, entertaining, and deep conversation with friends and family.
Caroll is survived by his much-loved blended family.
A celebration of Caroll’s life will be held on April 8, 2023. Please contact the family at [email protected] for further information.
