

NICHOLS, Clarence E. Long time Lotus resident Clarence E. Nichols passed away on October 15, 2014 at the age of 96. Clarence was born in Fairplay on January 30, 1918, to Clarence F. and Elinor Nichols and lived in El Dorado County all his life. His love of horses had him working on several ranches in the area as he grew up and after his retirement. He enlisted in the Army in February 1941. He was assigned to the 40th Engineers Combat Regiment, one of the original members of "Company D", El Dorado County's National Guard Company of World War II. He was sent to North Africa, Sicily, Italy, Southern France, England and Austria. He received an Honorable Discharge August 19, 1945. During his service he received the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, military specialties medals for Heavy Equipment Operator, Compressor Operator and Auto Mechanic. He worked at the Chevrolet garage in Placerville for thirty years. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty Nichols, his daughters Lucinda Seaton, Luellen (Charles) Crail, Joyce (Vern) Canon, grandchildren Mariah Crail (Derek Murray) and Wes (Carissa) Crail and great-granddaughter Paige Crail Murray. Surviving siblings areVincent, Bob and Gloria Nichols. Memorial services will be held on Nov. 14th at 11:00 am at the Chapel of The Pines in Placerville.
