For 67 years, Daniel shared his life with his beloved wife, Norma Colton Hansler. Together, they built a life centered on family, friendship, and adventure. For the last 28 years, they made their home in the Sierra foothills, surrounded by the mountains Daniel loved.
Daniel was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Family was at the heart of his life, and he took great pride in his children and grandchildren. He had a special way of teaching, not simply by explaining how to do something, but by inviting others along and sharing the experience with them.
He was a fun character with a wonderfully dry sense of humor. Daniel could make people laugh with a simple comment, a look, or a perfectly timed observation. He never took himself too seriously, and those who knew him will remember his quick wit and the many stories that came from a life well lived.
The outdoors, particularly the Sierra Nevada, was an important part of Daniel's life. He loved skiing, and some of his favorite days were spent on the slopes with family and friends. He especially enjoyed teaching others to ski and passing along something that brought him so much joy.
Daniel's interests reflected his curiosity, independence, and adventurous spirit. He served in the United States Navy, spent his career in the nonprofit sector as a fundraiser and consultant, and devoted time to Ski Patrol and Search & Rescue. He also had a deep love for his Land Rover and enjoyed working on it, tinkering with it, and finding another reason to take it out on the road.
More than his accomplishments or interests, Daniel will be remembered for the way he shared his life with others. He gave generously of his knowledge, humor, time, and enthusiasm, leaving his family with stories and memories they will carry forward.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, Helen Costello and Cecil Hansler.
He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 67 years, Norma Hansler; his sons, Daniel Hansler Jr. and Douglas Hansler; his son Donald Hansler, his wife Tracie Hannick, and their children, Draiden Hansler and his wife Marcee Boggs, and Noah Hansler; his daughter Alyse Brown, her husband Scott Brown, and their daughter Emma Brown; and his daughter Krista Mount, her husband Aaron Mount, and their children Kaia Mount and Landis Mount.
Daniel is also survived by his brother, Dennis Costello, and his wife, Ann Costello; his son, Matthew Costello, and his wife, Jessica Costello, and their two sons; and his daughter, Lauren Martin, and her husband, Tim Martin, and their two daughters.
Daniel's legacy lives on in the family he loved, the lessons he shared, and the many lives he touched.
He was deeply loved. He will be deeply missed. And he will never be forgotten.
You are warmly invited to join us in remembering and honoring the life of Daniel Hansler.
