August 15, 1944 – December 10, 2018
Diane Christine Lockwood passed away peacefully on December 10, 2018 at the home she shared with her husband after a twelve-year battle with breast cancer. She was born to Louise and Conrad Nordenstrom in Orange County, California.
Diane was an expert quilter and created several prize-winning quilts. Always generous, she gave away to relatives and close friends many of her beautiful creations. She volunteered her time with Sierra Wildlife Rescue rehabilitating injured song birds and helping to hand raise orphaned baby song birds. Diane was an accomplished photographer, with a keen eye for composition. She used camera equipment she had inherited from her father, a professional photographer in both military and civilian life. As a young woman, Diane was fully involved in the Summer of Love.
In years gone by, Diane was bitten by the Corvette bug and restored her own 1959 Corvette almost entirely by herself. Her husband noted that she came to the relationship with a better set of Craftsman tools than he owned. When her husband took up vintage Corvette road racing, she wanted to try that also. Diane earned her Sports Car Club of America competition license just before turning 60 and she had her own race-prepared Corvette.
Always fond of travel, Diane secretly organized “mystery trips” and, at the last minute, told her husband they were going somewhere. Her only guidance to him was to pack short pants and a parka.
A sweet, gentle person, Diane had a ready, sincere smile, a quick wit, and a rapid fire sense of humor.
Diane is survived by her partner, best friend, and husband of twenty-six years, Jim Lockwood.
A celebration of Diane's life was held at Chapel of the Pines followed by a private burial.
She came and she gave without taking.
