Longtime Placerville resident Doreen Ann Corner was born on July 22, 1945 in Long Island, NY. She passed away on August 9, 2018 in Placerville. Doreen was a servant of the Lord and looked forward to the day when she would join him in Heaven.
Doreen had a heart for caring for people. She was there for so many people during her time here on earth and always put the needs of others before her own. One thing everyone knew about Doreen was that she loved to celebrate holidays, birthdays and special occasions. She celebrated the milestones of living, and shared that gift with her friends and family.
She was active in the New Wine Christian Fellowship, and enjoyed playing tennis with friends.
Doreen was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Corner, and son, Thomas James. She is survived by sons Todd Turley, Bradley (Helen) Turley, and Neal Turley; grandchildren, Ashley, Josh, Jake, Tristan, Evan and Rebecca Turley; step-children, Joanna and Michael Corner; and step-grandchildren, Jolene, Lynette, Michael, and Stephanie Corner.
Doreen’s life was a series of adventures as she realized her dreams of having a beautiful family and giving them her spirit for adventure. The following is an autobiographical excerpt from her journal. She never stopped pursuing her dreams.
Copy from Doreen:
I was born July 22, 1945 as Linda Lee Schofield. I was placed in the home of Marion and James Segriff and was legally adopted by them in 1946. I was given the name Doreen Ann Segriff.
Holidays were always celebrated in our home. We had the best birthdays, Christmas's and on Valentine's Day, Dad would always come home with three large heart shaped boxes of chocolates for his three sweethearts.
I was the rough, wild, unorganized "messy one" who loved horses and cowboys. I was a cowboy at heart.
On November 10th, 1964, I went out on the town with Tom Turley. He was just out of the army, and I was nineteen years old. It was love at first site. We danced all night, went out for breakfast, and talked till morning. We would go on to have four beautiful boys that I would love and cherish.
As a single mother through the 1970's, Doreen would develop a passion for camping, dune buggies, waterbeds and realize her dream of owning horses. In 1987, Doreen married her second husband, Michael Corner. Michael had two children of his own, Michael and Johanna. As the children grew up, Doreen would be a loving grandparent to twelve grandchildren, each of whom, would always be remembered on their birthdays and be on the top of Santa's list every year.
Living in Placerville, Doreen discovered the New Wine Church. She finally had found a church to grow roots with and develop her faith. She would run the food closet at the church, feeding and caring for families in the community. She was Santa's little helper throughout the year putting together special shoes boxes filled with unique gifts and toys for children all over the world. Doreen's faith in God and relationship with Jesus Christ guided her through life.
The death of her father at the age of twelve, left her with the ability to cope with people who where dying. "Death was something I was not afraid of. It's a reality to me. The purpose of life is to serve God until someday we can be united with him through death."
Preceded by her first son Thomas James just three weeks before, Doreen would go to be with her son and our lord Jesus Christ on August 9, 2018. She will be forever missed and always hold a special place in our heart whenever we see a child make a wish to blow out birthday candles or open their first present on Christmas morning.
......All my faith
