December 8, 1917 - December 20, 2011
Dorothy L. (Tatum) Melson passed away in Placerville on December 20, 2011. Born to Hardie Badger and Lena Ebel Tatum in Tustin, CA, left us to be with Lowell, her husband of 49 years, four siblings, a great-grandson and far too many friends to mention. Dorothy moved to El Dorado County with her family at the age of 8. She is survived by 2 children, Carolyn (Jim) Russell and Ray (Diane) Melson, 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Travel was always a delight to Dorothy no matter where or when. When asked if she would like to go somewhere, her only reply was “when.” A few of her trips included one encompassing 26 states, Canada and Mexico all in 6 weeks, Niagara Falls and points between, Hawaii, Alaska, Lake Powell house boating and too many fishing trips to count. (Lots of casinos were missing a few dollars after she visited) Friends were always treated as family and Dorothy was never happier than when the whole gang was eating her food and denting her furniture.
Graveside services will be held at Westwood Hills Memorial Park in Placerville on Tuesday, Dec. 27th at 12 Noon. A gathering of friends and family will be held at Dorothy’s home after the service. Contributions in Dorothy’s name may be made to Snowline Hospice, 6520 Pleasant Valley Rd., Diamond Springs, CA 95619 or www.snowlinehospice.org. Friends may sign a guestbook and leave condolences at www.chapelofthepinesfunerals.com. Arrangements entrusted to Chapel of the Pines Funeral Home, Placerville.
