Born on December 20, 1928 in Oakland, Calif., passed away on June 9, 2012 in Placerville, Calif. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 64 years, Donald B. Young; son Dale Young and wife Ruth; daughter Linda Tooch Von Emmerik and husband Rod; brother Vernon Shepherd; 6 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Shepherd.
Irene, as she was known by all who were close to her, enjoyed cooking, gardening, camping and fishing. Her favorite pastime was raising, showing, training, riding horses and giving riding lessons. Irene and Don lived on a ranch in Pleasant Valley for over 30 years. Along with her husband, she organized summer trail rides and camping trips. Many kids and adults as well looked forward to the annual trips.
A gathering to celebrate Irene’s life will be held later this summer. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
