August 13, 1941 – September 28, 2010
James (Jim) Plank of Pollock Pines passed away on September 28, 2010. Jim was born August 13, 1941, in Upland, California, to Clifford and Eleanor Plank. Jim is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sue Plank; his two children, Jenna (husband Sam) and J.J. (wife Trish); and his grandson, Aiden.
Jim grew up in Wrightwood, California, where his father worked for the US Forest Service and his mother was an elementary school teacher. Jim joined the US Army in 1966 and served as a MP in Korea during the Vietnam conflict. After an honorable discharge Jim began his career with the US Forest Service, and married Sue, a school teacher.
Jim and Sue lived in several places throughout California, eventually settling in El Dorado County where Jim worked at both the Pacific and Georgetown Forest Service Districts. In 1995 Jim retired as a Timber Management Officer after spending 35 years working for the US Forest Service. After retiring Jim worked part-time for the El Dorado Transit Office.
In 1998 Jim received a heart transplant, which gave us all the gift of 12 more great years with him. Both Jim and Sue volunteered their time with Golden State Donors Services and the Placerville branch of Mended Hearts. Jim loved boating, fishing, camping, hunting, hiking in the woods, and traveling around the world. Above all Jim loved his family and the many friends he made throughout his life.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Sunday, October 10, at 2:00pm, at the Davies Family Inn at Shadowridge Ranch, 3700 Fort Jim Road in Placerville. The family requests no flowers. Please make any donations to Golden State Donor Services at www.gsds.org/Giving.
