Joan Amo, a 42-year resident of Placerville, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on April 18, 2018. She was 78. The daughter of Frank and Consetta Re, Italian immigrants, Joan Re was born August 4, 1939 in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Joan arrived in Placerville in 1976 where she became a real estate agent for Red Carpet. Soon after, she met the love of her life, George Amo, and they were married in 1979. Joan and George have six children, 16 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Joan adored and doted over each and every one of them.
In her youth, Joan had a passion for teaching. She graduated from San Francisco State with a certificate of teaching and became an elementary teacher. She later expanded her skills to include real estate and then small businesses. In 1979, Joan and George opened Hangtown Florist on Fair Lane and later expanded with Flower Design on Broadway. Before retiring, Joan returned to her original passion as an educator. She joined the El Dorado County Office of Education staff as a day care supervisor at Charles Brown Elementary School where the kids absolutely loved her and reaped the culinary benefits of her superior Italian cooking skills. She cherished every child in her care and was never happier.
In her personal life, Joan was an incredibly social person and had countless friends. She loved tending to her garden and shared her passion with her Garden Club friends. She was also an active member in the Newcomers Club where she welcomed the newest residents to Placerville. However, it was her TGIF Ladies Group where she spent untold hours playing cards and Bunco with the ladies. She loved Bunco! She also added travel to her active life and took every opportunity to see the world; and she saw a lot of it visiting Hawaii, Mexico, Paris, Italy, Germany, Austria, Yugoslavia, England, Belgium, and Holland.
Joan’s family and friends will host a memorial celebration of her incredible life at the Chapel of the Pines, 2855 Cold Springs Rd, Placerville, on May 4 at 2 p.m. Reception will follow.
