OBITUARY

John Leonard Baker

May 25, 1923October 4, 2012

John L. Baker, 79, was born in Vallejo, California on May 25, 1933 to Milton P. Baker and May M. Baker. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 42 years, Mary Lou Baker. He is survived by his three children, Cathy Reyes of Roseville, CA, Scott Baker of Shingle Springs, CA, and Todd Baker of Brimfield, IL. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The youngest of six brothers and sisters, John faced adversity growing up when his mother passed at the young age of 7. He went on to lead a very successful life providing for his loving wife and children. John served in the Air Force as a surveillance camera specialist in the Korean War. Upon returning, he married his high school crush Mary and they moved to Citrus Heights to work at McDonnell Douglas and later the Sacramento Army Depot, where he retired after 42 years of service.

John and Mary built the home of their dreams in Shingle Springs in 1963, where they continued to live until their passing. A true craftsman, he possessed tremendous talent for building and fixing anything and will be missed by many for his abilities and insights. From his cars to hand-made tractor, backhoe, and furniture for the home, John had a passion for engineering and working with his hands until shortly before his death.

Services will be held at Chapel of the Pines in Placerville, CA on the 18th of October at 10am. A visitation will commence at 9am. Donations can be made in John’s honor to the American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be posted at www.chapelofthepinesfunerals.com.

Cathy and family - SO sorry for your loss. I have known your dad, Mr. Baker(didn't know if as anthing else)since you and Jose have been married. Long time...When I heard of his passing I just remembered the good times had at their house for Elisa and Mallory's b-day parites when they were toddlers. Fun was had by all. Good times. Again sorry for your loss. Love Irene, Kenny and Olivia Smith

I just realized how I can upload the photos directly, so here are two pictures taken at the Douglas facility where John and I both worked in the late 1950's. Hopefully they will remind you of happier times.

Dear Cathy, Scott and Todd,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I worked with your father at the Douglas facility over fifty years ago, so it saddened me when I saw the notice in the paper, but it also brought out good memories and took me back to the photo album I have of those days.
There are a couple of very good pictures of us from those days that I would be more than happy to share if you want to send me your e-mail address. You can reach me at the e-mail address below.
Again, let me extend my condolences at this very sad time, and if you would like me to forward the photos, please let me know.
Bill
