

Kenneth Victor Scanavino, passed away in Placerville, CA on July 22, 2016 and went to his heavenly home. He was born in Stockton, California to Agnes and Victor Scanavino. Preceded in death by his parents and brother Robert Scanavino. He leaves behind his wife Mary the love of his life for over 40 years, his children, daughter Shelly Nielsen of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, Dale Teach of Hangtown, California, Greg Scanavino of Cameron Park, California, and Matt Scanavino of Elk Grove, California. Ken and Mary have 3 grandchildren, Kyle Nielsen of Lake Tahoe, California, Jamie Nielsen of Scottsdale, Arizona and Amanda Teach of Shingle Springs, California and their great granddaughter Syren Slater of Shingle Springs, California. He is also survived by his sister Victoria Young (Leslie) of Oklahoma City, OK, sister in law Sue Scanavino of Stockton, California, sister in law Priscilla Montesanto (Richard) of Auburn, California, sister in law Mona Atnip (Darrell) of Oxnard, California, brother in law Louis Vince and son Spencer of Somerset, California and many nieces and nephews who adored him. He also leaves behind his beloved dog Molly his best buddy.
Ken was active all his live with his favorite sports Football and Baseball. As a young kid he was on the first little league team in Stockton, he also played on the first Babe Ruth team. Ken went to Stockton Junior High then St. Mary’s and Franklin High School. During his high school days he played on the football and baseball teams. He also played semi pro baseball. After high school he attended Stockton Junior College and played with the Mustangs during 1958-59 Orange Show Bowl. The Mustang baseball team won the California State Junior College Baseball Championship.
He attended Sacramento State College and played 4 years of football. After graduating from college he started his career in teaching and coaching. He coached and taught at Galt High School for 4 years and then moved to Placerville, California. He became the head football coach at El Dorado High School for 9 years. After moving to Shingle Springs, California he retired from teaching/coaching and established his own Insurance Agency in 1985. He was one of the most successful Insurance Agents in El Dorado County. He will be greatly missed by his staff and clients that he has helped over the years.
Ken was also in the US Coast Guard Reserve program for over 8 years.
Ken and Mary enjoyed traveling and spending time with their family and many friends. Ken’s favorite pastime was to attend the high school and California State College football games.
He faithfully served in the community care program at Green Valley Community Church. He had a special place in his heart for the less fortunate guests and they adored him for it.
Ken had a wonderful sense of humor and was a loving, humble and very generous man with a twinkle in his eye. We will all miss his love, devotion and quick wit. He will never be forgotten.
