

As a child Lanny grew up in Santa Monica and Los Angeles, CA. He attended Ramsey Military School where he got his first role as an actor in a TV series. He graduated from Santa Monica High School in 1963 and attended Santa Monica City College where he was Student Body Vice President and starred in theater productions. Lanny spent his childhood on the beach, spent time with multiple Aunts and Uncles and his many cousins, and took many wonderful vacations with his family. He went on to major in Drama at UCSB, performing in many theater productions. He graduated from UCSB in 1968. He proudly served his country in the Navy; he was stationed in Japan. He formed a theater group to entertain troops and their families.
Lanny met his wife, Tish, in 1967 at UCSB. They married in 1971 establishing their home in the Santa Monica area, then Los Alamitos. In 1976 they welcomed their daughter, Amy Soon after they moved to Placerville to be near Lanny's parents. In 1978 they welcomed their daughter, Kathryn.
Lanny first worked for The Treasury in management in Southern California. In 1978 he began 28 years as Program Manager for the federal job training and employment program. He managed the Alpine and El Dorado counties' programs. He took great pride in meeting people in the community who he had helped find employment.
Throughout his life, Lanny demonstrated his deep-rooted Christian faith through his integrity, kindness, caring and his love for his family and friends. He was a member of Federated Church.
Lanny was a Renaissance Man. He had many interests, his first and foremost being all aspects of theater. He was active in Theatre El Dorado, then proudly co-founded Imagination Theater. He acted and directed in many, many productions. His signature role was playing Tevya in "Fiddler on the Roof" and the Cowardly Lion in the "Wizard of Oz." As a leader of Imagination Theater, he mentored many people and touched the lives of hundreds of people in our community. Lanny was, above all, a lover of people and a planner. He served in many organizations, always rising to leadership positions. He was a faithful member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity and Kiwanis and many others. In his retirement Lanny became a tour director taking people on tours around the world. His other interests included photography, genealogy, cheering for the UCLA Bruins and LA Rams, and travel, especially Hawaii.
Most of all, Lanny was a beloved son, husband, Dad, Pops, Uncle, Nephew, and Cousin. He is survived by his wife, Tish; his daughters, Amy and Kathryn; his son-in-laws, Cameron and Tim. He was the best ever Pops to his grandchildren, Aidan, Charlie, Drew, Finley and Evie.
A Celebration of Lanny's life will be held January 4, 2020 at 11:00 at Federated Church in Placerville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Imagination Theater, P.O. Box 3303, Diamond Springs, CA 95619. The family is grateful to family and friends for their many acts of kindness, his team of doctors at Kaiser, and Snowline Hospice. Lanny's legacy of living joyfully, caring deeply and loving abundantly will live on in all of us who were blessed to have known Lanny Langston.
