Kay was born on September 2, 1921 in Fort Smith, AR to Arthur and Anna Sharum. She graduated from St. Anne's Academy in 1939 as valedictorian with honors. She moved to Washington D.C. after graduating and worked as a secretary for the Marine Corp. during WWII. She returned to Fort Smith and was working at Camp Chaffee in Fort Smith when she met John Laughon in 1945.They married in 1946 in Oakland, CA after he returned from serving in the Army during the war. They settled in Oakland for a time before returning to Fort Smith for a year, then back to California for many years to come. The couple welcomed ten children into their home and Kay taught them the Catholic faith, to be loyal to the church and your family, and to be kind to all. Her children remember her as a kind, caring and devoted mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals and always attend mass and keep close to God.
Kay was accomplished at medical transcribing and often worked full time while raising her ten children. She was a devout Catholic but also loved shopping, going out to eat and was an avid reader of spiritual, health and mystery books. Above all she was passionate about her faith and family. Kay was an active and dedicated member of St. Patrick Church and member of the Universal Rosary Association.
A Rosary is scheduled at 10:30 am and a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am for May 15, 2019 at St. Patrick Church in Placerville, CA, with a reception to follow in the Social Hall. Father Pepin Dandou will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Kay’s life. In lieu of flowers, Kay would like you to remember her and her family in your prayers. Our family wishes to express our sincere appreciation and gratitude to those who share our grief.
