January 1st ,1942 – October 22nd, 2024
Michael Ralph Shaw unexpectedly went to be with Jesus during the early morning hours of October 22nd, 2024, while at his home in Placerville, CA. His wife of 61 years, Linda, was by his side.
Michael was born in Astoria, Oregon as the first baby born on New Years Day in 1942. He graduated from Astoria High School, served a short time in the National Guard, and moved to California for better job opportunities. Linda, his high school sweetheart, followed and they were married on December 28th,1962 in Sacramento CA.
Michael earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He became a Sacramento police officer in 1965. During his career, he served as a patrolman, homicide sergeant, SWAT lieutenant, sector captain and station commander, retiring after twenty-nine years of service. Shortly after retirement he and Linda moved to El Dorado County to be closer to family.
In 1972 Michael was struck by lightning while hunting. He survived, unfortunately his best friend did not. The incident ultimately resulted in his becoming a child of Jesus Christ and dedicated Christian servant for the rest of his life. We know we will see him again.
He is survived by his wife Linda, his son Kenneth, (Christina) and his daughter Erin Taylor. (Chris) He is also missed by his grandchildren Josh Shaw, Kellie Shaw, Christian Taylor, (Haley) and Colin Taylor, (Jamie) great grandchildren Emily and Ryan Shaw, and numerous loved extended families in the Astoria, Oregon area.
A celebration of life will be held Wednesday November 6th, at 11:00am at Light of the Hills Lutheran Church, 3100 Rodeo Rd, Cameron Park, CA 95682. A reception will immediately follow.
