Pauline Wilson passed away peacefully on January 24, 2014 in Placerville, California after a brief illness. She was born on October 6, 1941 in Monroe, Washington, to parents Perry Taylor Culver and Marie Almira (Dennie) Culver. Pauline grew up in a very large family of 15 children; she was the 12th child in the household along with 8 brothers and 6 sisters. She attended school in Everett, Washington, where at the age of 16, she married the love of her life, Richard Wilson. They lived in Everett for short time before moving to Palo Alto, California where Richard found work at Lockheed. They were to remain in the South Bay Area for most the next 44 years where Pauline raised a family of 2 daughters and 3 sons.
After the children were old enough to go to school, Pauline went to work in the semiconductor industry as a wafer sort inspector for Fairchild and National Semiconductor. She also worked for a time as a bookkeeper and at Paul Masson Winery. Pauline was an avid cook where she was known in particular for her homemade lasagna and persimmon cookies. When the children were small, she also sewed many of their clothes and even took a class to learn how to decorate specialty birthday cakes for each of them.
In 1972, Pauline and Richard decided they wanted to try a new venture, so they packed up the family and moved to Brookings, Oregon where Richard tried his hand at becoming a commercial salmon fisherman. Although financially they were unsuccessful, Pauline always looked back at this time in her life with fondness. She often said that it contained some of the happiest and most rewarding moments in her life.
In 1975, the family moved back to California where Richard went back to work in the electronics industry. They remained there until 2002 when Richard retired. Shortly afterward, they moved back to Everett, Washington for 3 years. Pauline soon realized that she missed her grandchildren and she and Richard came back to California, eventually settling in Diamond Springs. In retirement, Pauline and Richard took several extended cross-country trips to Minnesota and Quebec where she met many of her cousins and gathered a great deal of genealogical information about her family.
Pauline is survived by her husband of 55 years, Richard Wilson and her 5 children; Lori Boes of Orangevale; Steven Wilson of Roseville; Larry Wilson of Lynnwood, Washington; Gregory Wilson of San Jose; and Pamela Honesto of San Jose. Pauline had 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and is also survived by 6 siblings; 3 brothers, Richard, Warren and Larry Culver and 3 sisters, Phoebe Burch, Penny Tonnes and Phyllis Richards.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 22 at the Chapel of the Pines, 2855 Cold Springs Road, Placerville, California, 95667 at 1:00 PM. A private inurnment will be scheduled for the family at a later date at the Westwood Hills Memorial Park in Placerville.
