Ruby passed away Nov 11, 2016 in her home of 44 years in Placerville, CA surrounded by her family. She was 84 years old. Born in Robert Lee, Texas, she described herself as a strong and true Texas farm girl. Ruby is the daughter of Garret Dewitt Swanson and Myrtle Mae Swanson, sister to Garvis Slim, Estalene, Pauline and Maxine, all predeceased. She married her one and only true love at 16 years of age, Robert J. Graham on Memorial Day 1948, so he would never forget their Anniversary. Ruby and Bob raised three children, Ronald, Roger and Rendy, describing "My boys are my pride & joy, my daughter my sweet treat". Ruby is grandma to Rebecca, Julie, Melissa, Ron, Inbal, Elaine and Bonnie; Great Grandma to Elina, Ryan and Kaliyanei. Ruby held them all deep in her heart.
Ruby is a friend to many and many loved her. In her younger years she enjoyed being a wife, mother, PTA member, volunteer at local hospitals, her and her husband were members of a bowling league for over 25 years and they square danced. She sewed her blouses and skirts with a matching shirt for Bob. She loved God, her family and friends, life, music, dancing, kitty's, and the yellow rose of Texas. Her favorite artists are Elvis Presley, Ray Price, George Jones, Merle Haggard.
Ruby often told people that Tom Kinkade was her neighbor and paperboy when he was a young boy. She felt that the local talent Val Pease, Fred and Cheryll Kent, Vince Smith, Dennis skinner, Scotch Tape and Bailin’ Wire, and many more, sang just for her and she knew every word to every song. Ruby’s all-time favorite and pride were her song son, Ronald, an accomplished concert pianist; her grandson Ron; and granddaughter, Rebecca, who often played piano and guitar for her. Her life and our home was always filled with music.
For the past 6 years Ruby was a member of the EDC Senior Day Center, she was the self-appointed head of the welcoming committee comforting new members, band manager, letting the entertainment know she had a song list ready which included songs about Texas; and grandma to her caregivers. Her heart was overfilled with song by the love received from all who played for her. Her family is grateful to the Center and her caregivers for giving her such joy and the dance in her step. Ruby said on her last day on earth "I'm taking the music home with me." Her cup truly runneth over.
Please join us to remember Ruby's sparkle as we lay her to rest next to her Husband, Bob; and her two sons, Ronald and Roger. Together Forever. A viewing will be held at Chapel of the Pines on Saturday November 19, 2016 from 10:00 - 10:30; graveside service beginning 11:00 am, followed by a funeral at 11:00 am, then burial at Westwood Hills Memorial Park.
